Mr. Bellaire shares secret to his big win
Feb 9, 2015
On Jan. 28, senior Ari Silverman was crowned the prestigious title of Mr. Bellaire 2015. Mr. Bellaire is a school-sponsored male pageant show that raises money for the class of 2015’s After Prom. Silverman described his involvement as a participant in the event.
“It’s was a pretty exciting and fun experience being in this competition,” Silverman stated. “We had a lot of rehearsals, and my group had to practice by ourselves for the talent portion. Every day we always had this one kid who would complain about how we didn’t have enough snacks.”
When it came down to show time, Silverman and his group were ready to perform. The contestants went head to head in the costume, talent, swimwear and formal rounds. In these rounds, senior Sydney Scherer accompanied Silverman as his female escort. For the swim wear category, the couple dressed ready for a luau. During the beach party, Silverman modeled a Hawaiian styled skirt and faux coconut bra. While dancing around, Scherer untied it, and Silverman acted as if he were an embarrassed girl. For the costume portion, the coupled dressed as Mr. and Mrs. Clause and pretended to exchange secrets. When it came time for the talent portion, Silverman’s group came out to “Milkshake” by Kelis and danced in 1950s inspired diner outfits.
As the competition came to a close, Silverman and Scherer graced the stage in their formal wear attire with bright smiles while the judges took their scores. Shortly after the results were announced, the crowd congratulated Silverman as the new Mr. Bellaire.
