Varsity football Cardinals put up valiant fight in final playoff game of the season against Cypress Falls

On Saturday November 21 the Bellaire Cardinals took on the Cypress Falls Eagles in the second round of playoff at the University of Houston’s TDECU stadium. The mood was intense as well as exciting as the players entered the field.

Within the first five minutes of the game the Eagles scored and had the Cardinals ready for a comeback. Senior Wide Receiver and Cornerback Le’mant Monroe caught a touchdown pass from Senior Quarterback John Hubble and easily ran it into the end zone.

“Getting the first touchdown gave the crowd and the team hope and ensured that we were still in the game. ” Monroe said.

As the game proceeded on in the first quarter, the Cardinals fell behind as the Eagles had a 21-7 lead.

At the start of the second quarter the Cardinals defense stood together as they blocked the Eagles from getting down the field. Senior Safety Jawaun Mason recovered a fumble caused by the Eagles and gets the ball back.  The crowd began to lift up their spirits as they saw the team getting back to their usual ways. After going back and forth with the Eagle, the Cardinals were able get an interception by Monroe. The crowd soon began to cheer as Senior Wide Receiver Courtney Lark ran a touchdown pass by Hubble and raised his hand up to throw up the University of Houston’s sign as he celebrated his touchdown pass and also his offer from the university.

“Scoring that touchdown felt normal because I think of University of Houston as my new home.” Lark said.

The Cardinals would go into halftime with the score of 19- 35.

At the start of the third quarter, the Cardinals came out of halftime with a different game plan. Receiving the onside kick, the Cardinals were able to score within the first seven minutes of the half as again Hubble threw a touchdown pass to Lark. The crowd began to get excited as the boys continued to battle against the Eagles.

As the fourth quarter progressed, it became like a cat and mouse game as the score was 33-35. The intensity of the players and the excitement of the crown quickly came to an end as the Eagles came out on top with the final score of 33-47. Silence rested on stadium as the Eagles celebrated their victory.
