Orchestra’s first concert is a success
Oct 8, 2014
On Oct. 6, the orchestra had their first concert of the year. The concert was directed by orchestra teacher Laurette Reynosa. Three orchestra groups — Chamber, Philharmonic and Sinfonia – performed at the concert, each playing three songs. Chamber performed Avatar by D. Spata, Little Symphony by C. Nunez and Terra Nova by R. Meyer. Philharmonic played Baroque Variants by K. Moiser, Reverie by S. Day and Incantations by R. Meyer. Sinfonia played Concerto Grosso III. Allegro con brio by V. Giannini, Serenade for Strings I. Andante con moto by J. Suk and Serenade for Strings V. Finale by V. Herbert.
Sophomore 5th chair Philharmonic violinist Daniel Liao believed the orchestra as a whole did a good job.
“Our section, we rehearsed a lot, and I think I did alright,” Liao said, “I practiced and overall enjoyed myself.” Daniel, who chose Orchestra as a hobby, expressed his thoughts on Orchestra. “Orchestra has gotten a lot more competitive,” Liao said. “We had a lot of good freshman violinists come in. I didn’t expect this orchestra to be that great considering the quality of middle school’s orchestra, but we had very good performers and we had a really good director.”
Freshman 1st chair Philharmonic viola Meghan Larson was relieved when the concert was finished.
“All the stress was gone,” Larson said. “I think we did pretty well for the performance.”
Freshman who came into a new high school had to adjust to a new school and a new director; however, thankfully, Reynosa finds teaching orchestra fun.
“I love working with the year’s new freshmen,” Reynosa said. “They’re all really sweet and they’re really helpful with each other.”
Chamber, Philharmonic, and Sinfonia are not the only orchestra groups.
“We have a beginner orchestra called the Concert Orchestra, but they won’t do their first concert until Dec. 2,” Reynosa said. “They’re not at performance levbl yet, but they will be by December.”
