Art Club throws it back to elementary school with melted crayon art
Oct 22, 2014
On Oct. 7 after school, members of Art Club and students interested in the making of arts and crafts gathered in room 209 to create melted crayon art.
The students joined around a table containing the supplies needed which included: a small canvas, a box of crayons, a hot glue gun and a blow dryer. The students placed the crayons vertically across the top of the small canvas facing downwards. Once the crayons were arranged, they were hot glued onto the canvas and ready to be heated by the blow dryer. When the students blow-dried the crayons for approximately 5 minutes, wax began to form and spread colorfully across the canvas.
Art Club member junior Elmer Lopez enjoyed staying afterschool and relaxing after a long day.
“I really like how even though I take art at school, I can still continue doing art-related things outside of it.” Lopez said. “Art Club is a place where you can be yourself and color outside of the lines, not follow a certain rubric.”
Art Club Vice President senior Allan Zelaya finds the club important for students to find an artistic outlet outside of class.
“The main purpose of this club is for students to express themselves through the means of art,” Zelaya said. “It doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to draw or paint, we will teach you how to.”
