Choir personalizes dinner and a show

Dec 1, 2014

On Nov. 8-9, Choir hosted their 9th annual ‘Cabaret Nights’ with help from the choir director Amy Solberg. The night included solo performances by select members of the choir as well as a variety of food. Before the show started, choir members served those in the audience with beverages and their first course.

Junior Kendall Elston, senior Sean Patlan and senior Charlie Padgett hosted the event. Between songs, they praised the previous singer and introduced the next with puns and jokes. Some of the performers sang accompanied by the choir’s pianist, Peggy Walters. Other choir members, including junior Amanda Garcia and senior Waylon Lee, played the guitar while singing to their own beat.

As the performers sang on stage, the rest of the choir members supported their friends with cheers and applause. Junior Courtney Sterry shared her experience as a soloist.

“If you are a soloist, you have to pick your sing during the summer. “ Sterry said. “Having a solo is really nerve-wracking, so you need to make sure you have it completely down and memorized. It’s really scary to have to get up and sing, knowing that you’re going to be singing in front of a group of people and that everyone is watching you. I sang ‘Memory’ from the musical ‘Cats.’”

When it was time for dinner to be served, the entire choir came around each table with plates in hand. Performing a quick song as they placed food on every table for each audience member. Dinner consisted of Mediterranean grilled chicken, aligot potatoes, and sautéed green beans.

Junior Celimar Burgos ended the evening with a passionate rendition of Feelin’ Good. With food and great performances, the Bellaire Choirs successfully entertained the audience. The next choir performance will be in the winter on December 12th.
