Belles win big at Spring Fling
Apr 7, 2015
Belles dominated the February 28th Showtime International ‘Spring Fling’ dance competition.
Amongst the glitter, sassy T-shirts, and oversupply of hairspray that lined the halls of hosting-Cypress Springs high school, the Drill/Dance team won two Grand Champion Awards, eight Best in Categories, and a trophy almost as tall as one of their dance officers. (Which, to be fair, does not say much)
Sophomore Mikayla Marcum—who is noticeably taller than the trophy—has been competing in similar competitions since she was twelve. When asked for her favorite part of the contest, her answer was definite.
“Winning,” Marcum said with a smile.
Though her solo—learned in September and practiced two days a week since—did not get first in this competition (it won that award at a later date), two dancers, senior Sydney Duran and junior Elise Betts, were runner-ups for both the solo and duet categories. Duran also won the Kickmaster Competition. Besides all this, Marcum liked the season for more than just its trophies.
“I feel like it brings us so much closer,” Marcum said.
