Girls’ soccer team rounds off a strong season

Apr 6, 2015

On Mar. 30, the Lady Cardinals Varsity soccer team concluded their season in the first round of playoffs against Katy High School. The girls finished the season with an overall district record of 13-0-1 (win-loss-tie) and scored a record of 91 goals in districts, placing them at first in the district as undefeated.

Captain senior Mackenzie Ward commented on the season as a whole.

“Unfortunately we did not make it in the first round of playoffs.” Ward said. “However, we still had many accomplishments throughout the season and made some great improvements as a team on and off the field.”

As a captain, Ward had to lead the team with fellow captain senior Clare O’Gara. Ward talked about her experiences with the team this season.

“Being a captain has proved to be challenging, but in all the best ways,” Ward said. “It forces you to put aside everything when it’s time to work because it’s your job to keep the team motivated and focused.  It has given me the opportunity to connect with all of the girls on a whole other level because our coaches stress the importance of leadership and trust that has strengthened our team dynamic.”

The team plans to stay in shape with post-season training for the remainder of the semester.
