A Q&A with Homecoming King Joseph Mabry
JM = Joseph Mabry. Interview conducted by News Editor Jordyn Kazmouz
So why did you decide to run?
JM: The Three Penny Press nominated me, and I went along with it because it sounded like a fun excuse to make posters and hang out with my friends.
What would you say the hardest part about running was?
JM: *laugh* Finding a suit that fit.
How did you come up with your witty slogans?
JM: My TP-Peeps helped me come up with them.
What was the secret to your victory?
JM: A large cup of joe.
Are there any downsides to being king?
JM: I have to represent my school and the community along with its values.
What do you do outside of academics?
JM: I rap, do photography and film, volunteer and work with my youth group.
What do you enjoy most in your downtime?
JM: Being the greatest rapper of all time.
What are your plans after high school?
JM: I’m planning on taking a gap year called “City Year” where you help/work with intercity kids.
And after that?
JM: I’m going to go into being a paramedic or a film career.
Do you have any final words of wisdom for your subjects?
JM: Freshman year me wouldn’t have expected that I’d be homecoming king senior year. Anything is possible.
