THREE PENNY PRESS applications are now being accepted for the 2023-24 school year. Deadline is Friday, March 3, 2023 at midnight. Click HERE to apply.  Early applicants will have priority. Questions? Come see us during 4th or 5th period or Cardinal Hour in Room 1306.

Incoming 2023-24 staff members should have the following on file: Application, essay, teacher recommendations and evidence of attending at least one (virtual or in person) summer camp and/or zoom session(s).  Essay and teacher recommendation details are included in the application. Summer camp dates will be available to all accepted members.

Three Penny Press is a 5.0 credit class.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?  Aspiring journalists, graphic designers, sports writers, graphic designers, business minded folks and video editors. Students who are entering 10-12th grade. Has your English teacher told you that you have strong voice in your writing? Consider becoming a newspaper reporter on the “Three Penny Press” where you can write for an audience.


  • Anyone who thrives in a fast-paced exciting, energetic and fun team that functions as the eyes, ears and voice of Bellaire.
  • Positive “I can learn it” and “I will try it” attitudes.
  • Strong writers and readers.
  • Overall strong students (you must be passing every class) with solid attendance.
  • Reporters, sports writers, photographers, copy editors, graphic designers, artists, social media/digital leaders, business managers or anyone who wants to learn these skills.
  • Experienced video editors.  Become a high school news anchor, create videos and  podcasts.
  • Students who are open to becoming proficient in every area of multimedia journalism.
  • Aspiring writers who want to build a portfolio by publishing your work.
