Earth Day
Universally, April 22nd marks a day of appreciation for our Planet Earth. Typically, many of us disregard our environment, covering the streets with litter. On this day though, students and civilians gather together to spread the awareness of keeping our Earth clean. We ban together to pick up the trash, making sure to celebrate her in her glory. At school, this event is highly festive. Activities range from musical performances to decorative banners promoting the beauty of our world. The entire courtyard was transformed to be a colorful and positive atmosphere for students and teachers.
Creativity and love was spread throughout second through sixth periods. Students volunteered to pull off this successful event for the campus. Artistic activities were also widely popular for the student body. Henna designs were available brought to us by the Hindu language class. Select students who knew how to draw henna volunteered per students’ requests for the low cost of five dollars. Beautiful designs covered students’ hands and arms. Face painting was also represented. Earth-related paintings were displayed on everyone’s face. The promotion of keeping the planet orderly was successful through the day.
Vegetarian lunch and snacks were provided for sale, as well as samosas and other delicious treats. Performances were made by some of the choir members and those in band. Some brave souls also volunteered their vocal abilities to continue the show, causing crowds to form and listen to the new sounds.
The day was filled with community and warmth. Smiles were spread across the school and courtyard. The tradition of Earth Day lives on in our campus, and that’s something I couldn’t be more proud of.
