Choir pops in their 2016 annual pop show
On Friday, May 13, the choir presented their annual Pop Show. This year, the theme was “Yearbook”, and group performances focused on events that related to high school. Numbers included a High School Musical mashup, “Rumor Has It” and “Popular”. Each senior sang a solo as well.
Leading up to the show, the choir rehearsed every Monday night and occasional Friday night in addition to practicing every day in class. Senior Waylon Lee described how he prepared for his solo, “Seven Years”.
“I sang it seventy-thousand times,” Lee said. “I even sang in classes, including physics. I’m glad I did not mess up on words.”
Lee, who has been a member of the choir since his freshman year, remarked on the how energetic his fellow performers were.
“I really enjoyed the amount of energy we had this year,” Lee said. “Overall, everybody was more hyped up than last year.”
Junior Jackson, a member of the varsity choir and Madrigal, a small ensemble, explained her favorite part of the show.
“Our Madrigal performance that night was the best we had done,” Hardin said. “It was really satisfying when we finished.”
Hardin commented that she is looking forward to her solo next year, and is excited to participate with the choir this upcoming year.
“I can’t wait to find out what songs we’re doing for pop show next year,” Hardin said. “I’m excited to see how our choir grows, and who is promoted to higher levels within our group.”
Although Pop Show was Lee’s last performance during high school, he hopes to continue singing in the future. He described what he will miss most about choir.
“It’s kind of what I fit into,” Lee said. “I didn’t fit into anything in middle school. I would say choir is a home. It’s a place where I belong.”
