On May 12, the Bellaire Choir held their annual pop show.

Senior Daniel Ramirez explained what this year’s theme, “Revolution”, mean to him personally.

“I honestly think that this theme was very appropriate with all the things going on in the world, especially in politics, like the election,” Ramirez said. “I thought the theme was very relevant. We have the right as humans to revolt and have a say in our government, and I think the pop show really reflected that. It was very thoughtful of Ms. Solberg.”

With such a busy schedule throughout the while year, the choir barely had a month to prepare for their show. Immediately after returning from their UIL competition, they began rehearsing.

“It took a lot of hard work,” Ramirez said. “We initially just got our music and just started to learn the words and divided all of the songs up. We just started to memorize the words and after we got the notes right and got the words down, we started to learn the choreography with our choreographer, Daphne. She was a great choreographer, and she really just took the time to come to school and teach us all the moves.”

Ramirez has been in choir since he was a freshman. This year, he performed in group numbers such as “Hamilton”, “Let the People Sing”, and “Seize the Day”. Ramirez remarked on his favorite number.

“I would say ‘Hamilton’ was pretty fun,” Ramirez said. “I couldn’t believe how much the lyrics actually spoke truth into how our nation was born and stuff like that I really appreciate that I really learned a lot from that song, more than just the words, but also the core meaning of it.”

Junior Ricky Lee performed “Seize the Day”, “Imagine”, and “Touch the Sky”. Like Ramirez, he also enjoyed performing “Hamilton”.

“I think ‘Hamilton’ was my favorite,” Lee said. “I liked dancing with my partner.”

Seniors also had the opportunity to do a solo as well. Ramirez sang “She’s Always a Woman to Me” by Billy Joel. Ramirez reflected on his experience.

“I initially wanted to sing another song, but Ms. Solberg really recommended this one to me,” Ramirez said. “I just took a chance with it and auditioned with it and she really liked it. I ended up really liking it too because I like Billy Joel a lot, and I listen to his music and I like his style a lot. I felt very confident about going out there.”

Lee commented on what he is looking forward to the most for next year.

“I’m looking forward to next year’s choir trip and next year’s pop show.”
