Roses are red and violets are blue,
Love is in the air and Valentine’s Day is too! Watching your favorite rom-coms is the perfect way to celebrate the day of love, and I have a few recommendations to help you choose what film to watch:
“XO Kitty”
A spin off to “All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.”
Love, drama and boys – “XO Kitty” has it all.
The show follows a girl named Song Covey, who pursues her long-distance boyfriend and heritage in South Korea. She enrolls in a prestigious school called the Korean Independent School of Seoul. Covey is very quickly swept up into a mixture of drama and romance on her journey to discover herself and who she is. What I liked about this show was the way that they blended the teenage drama with Covey’s cultural identity, showing emotional yet relatable moments.
Covey’s journey throughout the show goes beyond relationships, as she discovers who she is. “XO Kitty” is a great watch for anyone who’s looking for a perfect blend of a good laugh and romance.
“13 Going on 30”
Wishes, magic and nostalgia.
Jenny Rink, a 13-year old girl turns 30 after a birthday wish gone wrong after making a birthday wish wishing she was older. Rink wakes up in her thirty-year old self’s body and tries to navigate adulthood while having a childlike perspective. She soon realizes that growing up and being popular isn’t all glamorous as she once thought it was when she was younger. What I loved about this movie was her relationship with Matt Flamhaff, her childhood best-friend.
As a child, Rink pushes away her best friend Matt to become popular. As an adult, she realizes how much he meant to her, and how they both need each other. I adored their relationship together throughout the movie. This movie is a timeless classic from the 2000’s that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day, regardless of your age.
“How I Met Your Mother”
Friendship, humor and marriage.
Ted Mosby, a father, recounts to his kids the story of how he met their mother. The show explores different themes, including heartfelt moments, romance and unexpected plot twists. What I liked about this show was its humor in each episode alongside the descriptive storytelling. This show was not only about Mosby’s love for his wife, but also about his platonic love for his friends. Every character has their own love stories, and all of that connects together through their friendships.
“How I Met Your Mother” is great to watch with yourself, your friends or your partner. This show has something for everyone, whether it’s humor, love or friendships, it’ll definitely leave a long-lasting impression on you as it did on me.
“Kissing Booth”
Romance, drama and betrayal.
“The Kissing Booth” involves a high school girl and her best friend’s older brother. Elle Evans breaks the ultimate rule, the number one rule— falling for her best friend’s older brother, Noah Flynn. A secret romance between the two unfolds into something deeper as they attempt to hide their relationship from others. What I liked about this movie was that Evans learned how to find her own voice and discover who she was through her relationship with Noah due to him being toxic and especially after her relationship too. She realizes her identity isn’t tied to being “someone’s girlfriend,” but rather the person who she’s becoming.
“Emily in Paris”
Adventure, ambition and fashion.
“Emily in Paris” follows a young marketing executive from Paris, named Emily Cooper. Cooper moves to Paris for her dream job and finds herself in an unexpected love life (or several), while simultaneously experiencing a clash between culture and her career. The show is very visually appealing, and I love the detail they put into each scene. What I love about this show is the storyline and how each episode always keeps me on the edge of my seat. This show has a perfect blend of drama and romance, which will always make you want to watch more.
So, sit back, press play and enjoy the moment.
