Movie Review: Zoolander 2
Zoolander 2 starring Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, and several other familiar faces came to theaters Friday, February 12, 2016. This sequel to the original Zoolander was anticipated. The previous film left off with Derek, a clueless fashion model being brainwashed to kill the Prime Minister of Malaysia. Now, the main characters, Hansel and Derek, are modeling again when an opposing company attempts to take them out of business. The duo is thrust back into the spotlight after living in seclusion for years. Invited to a major fashion event in Rome, the estranged friends are surprised to see how much the business has changed. Even more shocking is their encounter with Valentina Valencia, a special agent who needs their help. Someone is killing famous pop stars, and it’s up to Derek and Hansel to help save the world’s most beautiful people from a similar fate. Filled with plentiful guest appearances, including Justin Bieber, Kim and Kanye, Penelope Cruz, Will Farrell, Demi Lovato, and so many more, it almost seemed to come off as a cameo to the actual movie itself. For younger viewers, it was a sillier script, but for the older audience, the script didn’t do much for them. The humor was questionable to some. The film had “dumb” humor with prose that filled the gaps in between the cameo of celebrity guests. This has made the movie seem to almost drag on, and seems as time filler for the special appearances. The plot for the movie is very simple and not complex at all. It’s easy to understand what is occurring even if the first movie has not been previously watched. I liked that I could catch up watching Zoolander 2 without having to have watched the original Zoolander. It was a fun movie to watch in the theaters and share a good laugh with some of my friends. All in all, go see it and see what you think!
