Smoosh is the first Houston location to specialize in custom ice cream cookie sandwiches. This food truck is typically located in Rice Village on 5505 Morningside Dr. to the right of Torchy’s Tacos. Date and times are announced day of on their Instagram @smooshcookies and Twitter @SMOOSHcookies. They can also be found at events including festivals and fundraisers and are willing to cater. Smoosh combines freshly baked cookies from a family recipe with creamy premium ice cream to create the perfect ice cream sandwich that will leave a party in your mouth.
Smoosh not only offers ice cream sandwiches at a price of $3.75, but also milkshakes, sundaes and floats. There is definitely something available to satisfy your cravings. They have a variety of flavors of cookies including peanut butter, chocolate chip, sugar, white chocolate chip macadamia and oatmeal raisin. For ice cream, there is butter pecan, chocolate, French vanilla, mint chocolate chip, peanut butter brownie, strawberry and sugar free apple pie. Toppings are an additional $0.50 and vary from sprinkles to shredded coconut to bacon to Nerds.
There are three steps to customizing your own ice cream sandwich. First, you have to choose your preference of cookie. All the flavors seemed really good, but I ended up narrowing down my choices to sugar and white chocolate chip macadamia. I decided to go with the white chocolate chip macadamia cookies. Next, pick an ice cream of your choice to stuff between the cookies. Of the many, I ended up choosing the mint chocolate chip ice cream. Lastly, top it off with your favorite toppings. I did not want any toppings, but you can opt for some to add a dash of color to your final product. The workers here were also very nice and quick. They handed me my sandwich less than a minute after I ordered it.
The ice cream sandwich was indeed delicious. The ice cream smooshed in between the warm cookies were the perfect consistency and a great delight. The mint flavoring of the ice cream balanced well with the sweetness of the cookies. The crunchiness of the macadamia nuts in the cookies also added a nice texture. This place would be great for any day, fall or spring, summer or winter. Caution, ice cream will melt and become a mess if not careful!
This treat was a little too sweet for me but I will most likely come back to try the other great desserts that Smoosh offers!
