Darion Manning Profile
On Sept. 30, 2016, the Cardinals won a well-deserved victory for the homecoming game. Quarterback Darion Manning, junior, knows about the nitty – gritty work the team put in better than anyone. The audience sees the beautiful execution, but not all the laborious practicing that the Cards did to prepare.
“We focused and practiced extremely hard for that game.” Manning said. “We do that every week, but we had just that much more incentive.”
Clearly all the hard work payed off.
“It was probably one of our best games as a complete team.” Manning said. “I feel like the defense in particular did really well, I have to give it to them.”
The Quarterback makes it clear that the spirit in the stands immensely helped propel the Cardinals to victory.
“The spirit was terrific.” Manning said. “I love seeing all the students, parents and teachers come out to support. It really helps my and the team’s overall performance.”
However, this is not to say that the homecoming game was the best of the season. While it was one of the best games so far, the Cards plan to continue on to many more victories through hard work and frequent practice.
“We’re just taking it week by week.” Manning said. “I have a lot of high hopes preparing for the rest of the season, as well as the playoffs. I think we will continue to have success.”
Although Manning puts his heart and soul into football, he does the same with his school work. He knows that education just as important as football, and while it is difficult, he takes action to make sure that both of these passions are taken care of
“Balancing school and football can be kind of tough sometimes.” Manning said. “But when I’m on the field I give it 100%, and I do the same thing in the classroom. It all seems to work out.”
Manning doesn’t plan to stop working for his dreams, both football and educational, after college. He has high aspirations for a degree and beyond.
“I definitely hope to play in college.” Manning said. “I would like to attend Oklahoma State University, but really any college that gives me a full ride works for me. I hope to someday play professionally as well.”
Even with all the responsibilities he juggles, the quarterback has a good head on his shoulders and always keeps his goals in sight. Successful in both school and football, the future looks bright for Manning.
