Matt Olsen is an English 2 teacher that has been working here for about 17 years, but has been teaching for much longer than that.

Olsen graduated from the University of Wisconsin 28 years ago, but moved to Houston in search for work.

“When I graduated from teaching school, there weren’t a lot of teaching jobs in Wisconsin,” said Olsen. “A friend of mine got a job here in Houston, so I called the principle of the school he was working at and she told me to come on down. I packed up my 1982 Subaru, with no floorboards or air conditioning, and came on down with 150 dollars in my pocket.”

Olsen enjoys watching football, tennis, and basketball.

“My favorite sports team are the Greenbay Packers, and I like the Texans,” said Olsen. “I mean I wish [the Texans] well, but growing up in Wisconsin as a Packers fan, it becomes tattooed on to you in a way. I know a lot of people that I grew up in Wisconsin with, people I went to college with, and childhood friends who are all over the country and we still text each other, from Atlanta, from Los Angeles, from Seattle, during the games and they’re still Packers fans.”

Olsen loves his job here at Bellaire and loves teaching his students.
