Choir students prepare for a day of singing valentines

On Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day, the choir traveled around from class to class singing to fellow students. Students began purchasing their singing valentines as soon as Feb. 1, excited to show their friends and loved ones they care. Senior Grace Dunn encountered people who bought singing valentines for many different reasons.

“People bought valentines because it was fun to embarrass their friends and show them that they were thinking of them,” Dunn said. “People also bought them because the singing valentines went to support the choir so that they could go on their trip to Disney and compete there”.

One of the reasons singing valentines were so popular was because of the way the students and teachers react. Sophomore Lauren Ohler was excited for her first time delivering singing valentines.

“I was really excited because I thought it will be funny to see people’s reactions in class,” Ohler said. “I thought people would be embarrassed, but I was excited to see my friends and find out what they thought of it. Singing to the students and teachers was kind of embarrassing, but watching their reactions made it worth it”.

Sophomore Kenneth Alexander explained that the choir had already started preparing for the singing valentines before winter break began.

“When practicing for singing valentines we usually got into our groups,” Alexander said. “Then we would pick a spot outside of the choir room and practice our songs. Since I had my guitar I would play and sing along”.

The women’s preparation was slightly different from the men’s as was explained by Ohler.

“When we were first learning a song we were all together as a group, but when we wanted to go in depth and work on dynamics and the specifics of it we would break into our voice parts,” Ohler said. “When we knew the song pretty well we learned a dance to go along with it and broke off into our Valentine’s groups”.

The choir put in a lot of hard work and energy into delivering the very best performance possible. They appreciated the participation of the students in supporting the choir and wanted to wish everyone a Happy Valentines Day.
