Six clubs wasn’t enough for her, so she founded her own.
Junior Megan Wang is a member of the Bellaire Chinese Club, National Honors Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Chinese Honor Society, eMotion and Business Professionals of America, and she is the founder of Invest in Girls.
“I was essentially just trying to find things I was interested in to gain insight on future career choices,” Wang said. “And I think I fell in love with business, economics and finance along the way.”
Wang’s love for finance and business is what inspired her to start her own club. She founded Invest in Girls during March of her sophomore year as a way to bridge the gender gap in financial literacy and finance-related fields.
"Not only was it something that aligned with my career interest, but it was also kind of like a passion project, or a personal decision," Wang said. "I started Invest in Girls because I felt like there just weren't enough women in society who have personal financial knowledge, such as managing their own money and financial literacy, and I definitely wanted to promote that, especially since 48% of our Bellaire population is economically disadvantaged."
Invest in Girls participates in many competitions such as the National Personal Finance Challenge. Competitions and events are organized by Event Coordinator junior Parisa Gopal.
“I like how we have a community and a lot of people come to learn new things, and work together on competitions,” Gopal said. “Megan's someone who's really good to work with because you can tell she just cares a lot about her club and she's really passionate about what it stands for.”
Wang also shares that clubs are a way she has made many new friends and grown relationships with people she may have never met otherwise.
“In eMotion, because we spend so much time together in practice, rehearsals and competitions, it really helped me to grow closer with not only the team, but also with a lot of those people individually,” Wang said. “And also I feel like showing up to friend’s club meetings is a good way to show support, so it's definitely been a big part of my friendships.”
Additionally, Wang uses clubs as a way to connect with others who share her culture. This month, she performed at the 2025 Chinese New Year Program alongside other members of Bellaire Chinese Club and Chinese Honor Society.
“I definitely wanted to do some clubs where I felt more integrated into the Bellaire community,” Wang said. “Chinese Honor Society and Bellaire Chinese Community definitely brought me a lot closer to my culture, and that was great.”
Clubs can also be a great way for students to connect with their religious community and values. One of the largest clubs at Bellaire is Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
“I'm a Christian, and it just felt really nice to find some people who share really similar values and who I could get along with,” Wang said. “I really look forward to FCA meetings because it's always so exciting to see so many people show up.”
Wang serves as the Social Chair for FCA, where she is responsible for organizing social events and icebreakers to help members connect and build relationships.
“We have meetings every Friday,” Wang said. “It's always a really fun time, because we have bible studies, icebreakers, devotionals and other things like that.”
Wang devotes most of her lunch time during the week to participating in her various club meetings. She loves using Cardinal Hour as a time to integrate herself with the Bellaire community.
“I show up to a lot of my friends' clubs, so that's almost every other day,” Wang said. “I also host Invest in Girls meetings every two to three Mondays, and I show up to all of my other club meetings.”
Wang is a member of the fundraising team for eMotion, which is led by junior Sara Bangale. The Fundraising team works to raise money for eMotion through events such as fundraisers and spirit nights.
“Megan is so fun and she's always working really hard,” Bangale said. “She’s really dedicated, not just to eMotion but to all of her other clubs as well.”
As a result of her hard work and dedication, Wang has also obtained many other leadership positions in her other clubs such as Finance team of BPA, Rehearsal Director for eMotion, Social Chair of FCA and founder/president of her very own Invest in Girls club. Wang loves being a leader but also finds great value in learning from her peers.
“I think these clubs are super nice because if you have extensive knowledge in an area, it’s great if you're open to share it with other people,” Wang said. “This type of culture has really helped me gain insight into what life has to offer; obviously, no one really knows what they want to do for the rest of their life as a teenager, but being part of these clubs has helped me narrow down what I want to pursue in the future.”
Being a part of seven clubs has helped Wang improve her time management skills, leadership abilities and her overall connection with the Bellaire community.
“Joining clubs is really important, especially in your freshman year, because it helps you make new friends and find a place to ground yourself,” Wang said. “It’s great to learn new things from your classmates and gain new experiences.”
