HUMANS OF BELLAIRE – Jasmin Garcia, 10

“One of my happiest moments was when I took a trip to my mom’s home in Guatemala, my first time traveling outside of the U.S. I have most of my family in Guatemala and finally meeting them in person brought me a lot of joy. Guatemala’s landscape and architecture had me in awe because of its beauty and trace of Mayan culture; it made me wish I could stay there forever. I stayed there for a week and I miss it every second. The food there is incredible, and I enjoyed traveling to a town called Monjas, where there were many vendors selling all types of fruit, including my favorite one called jocotes. I had a different perspective on life after seeing how the indigenous people did the most they could with the little resources they had and were still happy. It made me appreciate all the great things in life and not care about materialistic needs.”
