HUMANS OF BELLAIRE – Cody Sawyer

“I’ve spent all of my four years in band. It has truly shaped me into the person I am now. It’s taught me discipline, how to have fun and how to be me. 

When I came to Bellaire, I was really hyperactive. Band showed me that I didn’t have to be this person the entire time. You know, you can be in some places and not others. The band director, Dr. W (Dr. Waltemath), is always in with the kids. Through bus rides, [the band] became a family. 

There were a lot of emotions [at the band banquet.] One of my drummers, Daniel Flores, gave me a handwritten note and some photos, and that really brought me to tears. If I could give any advice to my freshman year self, it would be to not worry. It’s all going to work out, just trust the process.”
