“My mom inspired me to start dancing. I started dancing in a studio when I was 5.
[Dance] definitely gives me motivation because even if school is getting not so fun, I still look forward to coming to school and dancing, so it’s always fun. It pushes me to work harder – I make sure I’m on top of my grades because if I have bad grades, I can’t dance. In January I had a surgery, so I had to hurry up and try to recover from it because we had a competition right in the beginning of the year, so I had to work myself to get better.
I know it’s probably cliche, but I like feeling like I’m on TV because I feel like eMotion is the only school that I know that we’re able to do senior choreographs, and we’re able to make our own dances and stuff like that and be choreographers. I feel like it really allows you to see things differently, hear music differently and just process the effort.
My favorite performance was probably one I did in the last spring show. There was a dance I made called ‘2000s Party;’ it was really cool and really fun. A lot of my friends did it before they left, so it was definitely one of my favorite dances.
These last four years pass by super fast, so just have fun. Don’t try to rush it, live in the moment. Try to go full out and do the best for every performance because then you’ll look back and really be proud.”
