On Sept. 12, Bellaire hosted its first job fair. The event gave attendees the opportunity to learn about employment opportunities at Kroger. A representative of the southwest area of Kroger for employment, Hope Hernandez worked with marketing teacher and D.E.C.A sponsor Alice McKinney to organize the event.
“It was the first time we had ever hosted something like this and made it available to students,” McKinney said. “It brought the possibility of employment directly to them. They didn’t have to go out and hunt for it; she gave them all the information they need, and they know exactly where to go from here.”
McKinney believes that there was a good turnout for the event and another job fair in the future is likely.
“We had a lot of interested students,” McKinney said. “Ms. Hernandez had two and a half pages of names, and she also felt very good about what we had accomplished.”
