On February 5, members of the Italian Club and choir attended a special performance by bass-baritone opera singer Justin Hopkins. Hopkins has received numerous international accolades and is currently performing at the Opera in the Heights in the opera “Don Giovanni.” Senior Linh Pham attended the presentation and had the opportunity to learn about another side of a career in performance.

“He talked most of the time about the daily life of an opera singer and how they have to control their diet and balance out family life with their professional career,” Linh said.

French teacher Pulchérie Gueneau, an organizer of the event, commented on the high-level performance given by Hopkins.

“His voice had beautiful colors and warm depths. Furthermore, he truly inhabits his characters and literally brings them to life,” Gueneau said.

Pham agrees with the superb quality of Hopkins’ performance.

“His performance had so much passion and energy,” LInh said. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”
