The DECA Department, directed by Alice McKinney, hosted a spring party for the school’s special education kids, on Tuesday, April 15. DECA students worked with faculty and staff to provide a very enjoyable experience for the kids before the Easter holiday.

The party was held in the multi-purpose room from third period to fourth period. DECA students set up music, indoor games, face painting, and other very fun activities. The event was specially catered by DECA as well.

Sheila Guidry, a member of school faculty, has worked with the special education department for many years. Guidry explains what this event entails.

“For the last two years, Ms. McKinney has been giving parties for the Special Ed kids,” Guidry said. “It’s to let them know that everyone loves them and we appreciate them and we try to do everything that we can for them here to make them feel loved and welcome.”

Guidry has worked very hard to help the special education kids succeed. A lot of effort and time goes into the care for the special education department. Thankfully, the staff understands the needs of these kids and never hesitate to cater to these needs.

“Our kids know that they are different,” Guidry said. “We have these events to let them know that everybody is the same. We all love them and we have it just to motivate them and have them feel confident in themselves.”

Our special education staff tirelessly works to help and support our kids in the special education department. The community and the school are grateful.
