On Sept. 28, members of the Leo Club volunteered at the event Picasso’s by Paws.  The event was sponsored by Bayou City Outdoors to help raise money to benefit animal shelters.  Dog owners brought their pets to Urban Trails Vet Clinic and donated twenty dollars or more in order for their dogs to “paint.”

The dogs’ paws were dipped in different colors of paint, and their owners assisted them with pressing down their paws on the paper in order to create a paw print masterpiece.  The Leo Club volunteers helped with washing and drying the paws of the dogs after they finished painting.

Junior Katelyn Christie, member of Leo Club, talked about her experience at the event.

“We got to clean the dogs’ paws in a kiddie pool after they painted,” Christie said.  “It was really fun!”

Several of the dogs were so excited when they came to the washing station that they drank the water from the pool.  All the owners were laughing as they watched their pets’ paws be cleaned.

Junior Dani Kaiser, member of Leo Club, explained her reaction when she showed up at the event.

“I wasn’t expecting it to be like it was,” Kaiser said.  “There were people with dogs of all different sizes everywhere.  It was so entertaining.”

The event lasted for about two hours, and it turned out to be a success in raising money for animal welfare.

Leo Club’s next volunteer event will be the Pumpkin Patch at the Nature Discovery Center on Oct. 18 and 19 and will continue to meet every other Tuesday in room 354 at lunch.
