Culture Shock celebrates Black History Month

Mar 3, 2015

On Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, many school groups banded together to form Culture Shock, an event that celebrated Black History Month. The idea for event was the brainchild of Senior Amari Vann.

“It was very hectic and there were a lot of ups and downs,” Vann said. “It was a matter of finding people that were dedicated to the cause and the movement of having this program.”

There were people who requested to be in the program and also people that Vann knew would be perfect for the program. The program consisted of two step dance teams, poets, and musicians.

“I chose the music for each of the singers and I made the power point for my speech and for one of the singers,” Vann said. “I also was backstage telling people when to be ready and when to go onto the stage.”

After all of the hard work put into the show, there was a successful outcome.

“We even received a donation from a baker who made cookies specifically to be given out at the show. Also, we were provided with some of the theatre tech students who were able to help during the show with lights and moving props,” Vann said.
