Cardinal Kickoff
On Feb. 24 prospective high-schoolers toured the clubs and special classes available at the annual Cardinal Kickoff. Junior Vedant Chopra represented both the Robotics Club and the Math Club. Last year, he was also at the Robotics Club booth.
“Last year, we had a drone flying around, so that attracted a lot of attention and member sign-up,” Chopra said. “This year, I tried to create a light show, with less than stellar results, but we had multiple robots on at once.”
Chopra was once an eight grader, choosing which high school to go to. After a year in India, he returned and recalled what he saw the previous year.
“I still remember the robots from the time that I went to Cardinal Kickoff,” Chopra said. “I also remember the eMotions show, mainly because of the crazy flips they were performing. Really, it was the big movement that caught my attention back then. When I returned from Dubai, I was still interested in the Robotics Club and decided to join.”
Two years later, the bombastic display of robots hoped to garner the interest of this year’s future cardinals. Chopra knew what worked on him,
and he wanted to continue it to gain new members.
“Tonight, we showed off the bigger robot, which few of us know much about, but is the most impressive,” Chopra said. “Even the smaller robots are difficult to build and display, but we still took them out because everyone loves moving robots, including me.”
