Italian National Honor Society Food Drive

Having a heart for others was something that the Italian National Honor Society (INHS) strived to maintain. By hosting its second annual food drive for the Houston Food Bank, beginning in late October, INHS gave students the opportunity to give back to their community by bringing in canned foods. The brown-and-green collection boxes can be found in a multitude of teachers’ classrooms and had already began to be filled not long after being distributed. Junior Camilla Amitrano, a historian for the Italian National Honor Society, explained the significance of the food drive this year.

“The INHS decided to host another food drive so the younger people of our community could help others who are struggling with things that we often take for granted,” Amitrano said. “To me the food drive means helping people to make their day-to-day life easier.”

Senior Luz Rodriguez, Co-Secretary of INHS, also had a positive outlook on the food drive. She discussed its cultural significance and what all the food drive was able to accomplish.

“The INHS food drive is important because as a club we want to not only promote the Italian culture and language but also our values,” Rodriguez said. “Taking action to help somebody in need should be something that all cultures take part in.”

The school-wide food drive was a way for students and teachers to get involved with helping others.
