[BRIEF] An emotional end to the season: volleyball hosts end-of-year banquet
AN EMOTIONAL END: Yesterday night, the volleyball program capped off its season with its annual banquet. Each coach gave a speech about their team, and seniors shared a speech about their time in the program.
Individual player awards were also presented to each varsity player.
Senior right side hitter Kiera Metz, recipient of the Champion of Character award, said she was thankful for the opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of the teams and to come together as “one giant family.”
“Seeing my teammates being celebrated for doing their best all season long was a great way to officially end my last volleyball season,” Metz said. “As you probably know, it was very emotional.”
Senior outside hitter Eliza Konvicka, who was named Scholar Athlete and Co-MVP, expressed similar feelings as Metz.
“It’s always sweet to see the seniors being thankful to the coaches and their parents,” Konvicka said. “It was a really nice way to end the season and for everyone to be recognized for their continued efforts.”

As Chen said, it really was an emotional and heartwarming end for the volleyball season. It was also really great to listen to each senior talk about past funny moments to lighten the atmosphere. Not only did each senior give their own speech about their time at Bellaire volleyball, there was also a short video played for each senior prior to her speech. The video consisted of baby pictures of the individual and music that accompanied it, making each video not only enjoyable but also nostalgic. Overall, it was a memorable experience as a freshman to watch seniors bid their last farewells to a program that changed their lives forever and that would change mine too.

Such an amazing season ladies! Although I’ve only been with the seniors for one year, you all are amazing and such great athletes and people on and off the court. Our first district game I was amazed watching you all play, even at tryouts I was in awe at how well you all played and how much you all loved the game. I’m sure you have inspired many to play volleyball and do their best while playing because I know you all have with me. You inspire me to do better and to try harder to get to a good point. Please keep thriving and doing well with this sport, congratulations to you all and I hope to see you all soon. You will be missed !

Considering the fact that I attended the end-of-year volleyball banquet, I believe that the event itself was quite monumental for the young people who formalized the close of one of the several childhood affairs. The banquet was of course most emotional for the seniors as they were saying goodbye to the program. The heartfelt recaps of their lives and the touching speeches brought many to tears. I am very grateful to have witnessed and been a part of the volleyball season closure. For the seniors, I wish the best for future endeavors. Soon, this freshman class will mature into those seniors who stood before us.
