Senior Quinn Shefman beat over 10 contestants in a Halloween-themed online Blooket during the Geography Club meeting on Oct. 31.
Before the contest, seniors and co-presidents Selim Guven and Weston Benner presented a slideshow of Halloween traditions from cultures around the world, including the Hungry Ghost Festival from China and Fastelavn from Scandinavia.
“I wanted to choose [traditions] that I hadn’t heard of before and [that] I didn’t think other people had heard of before, so I chose things that were more obscure,” Guven said.
Shefman said she enjoyed learning about the different Halloween cultures and traditions from around the world.
“The most interesting Halloween tradition [that I learned] was that Halloween originated in Scotland,” Shefman said. “I have Scottish family and I was like, ‘Wow, it’s my people.’”
The Blooket mode was Battle Royale, where contestants were randomly paired up against each other to compete in mini-battles. Each contestant had three lives and needed to answer trivia about the Halloween slideshow quickly and accurately to keep their lives.
Shefman said that she “felt really fulfilled after the meeting because she won the Blooket.”
“This has been my favorite Geography Club meeting so far,” Shefman said.
