Tech Savvy Club held a meeting on 3D printing and making custom mugs during the first half of Cardinal Hour in room 2703 on Thursday.
Around 10 students attended as officers taught students how to design their own 3D print models through Tinkercad. To help students visualize the process, officers provided 3D figurines as examples while they worked on their designs.
“I think the meeting was pretty educational,” senior and President Lilac Walia said. “I started Tech Savvy Club to teach people about STEM or technology in general.”
Tech Savvy Club was created last year by Waliac and since then, the club has had guest speakers come in, such as software engineer James Dai from Apple.
“We like doing guest interviews like this and bringing people who are either first stepping into the STEM world or have a pretty great lodge into that world,” Walia said.
Member and freshman Ava Novak said the meeting was informative, adding that the demonstration of how to design the 3D cups was “really well done.”
“I think the meeting was very fun,” Novak said. “I feel like more demonstrations on 3D printing would be really fun and a chance to go downstairs to the library and look at the 3D printers.”
Junior and Vice President Sacha Uparipab said that the club aims to promote technology and advocate for a better use of it.
“I joined Tech Savvy because I thought there weren’t as many clubs at Bellaire teaching about technology,” Uparipab said. “I know there’s robotics, but on a smaller scale about technology, I felt there was a lack of [club representation] of that. [Students] should join if [they] want to advocate for a better use of technology.”
Tech Savvy Club plans to start volunteering opportunities, such as teaching kids about the “wonders” that STEM has to offer or going to nursing homes and teaching elderly residents how to access the internet.
Tech Savvy Club meets two weeks a month on Thursdays. To learn more about Tech Savvy Club, follow its Instagram at @techsavvy.bhs or join its Remind at @techsavvv.
