Future Farmers of America held a Valentine’s Day themed event in the FFA room after school on Feb. 26. Members who attended participated in various group bonding activities, including a scavenger hunt followed by an ice cream bar.
To follow the Valentine’s Day theme, the meeting started with the members writing heartfelt messages on each other’s backs on papers they got to bring home at the end of the meeting.
Juniors and members Avery Robertson and Grace Warner said this was their favorite part of the meeting.
“It was a really cute idea,” Robertson said. “It was just nice to be able to give other people compliments and receive compliments.”
After the messages, the members were split into teams of two and sent on a scavenger hunt around the school, with clues about the program that FFA members would know. Robertson and Warner worked together to follow the clues, eventually winning the prize of a bucket of candy.
“It was very fun and I’m so proud of us,” Warner said. “But we also know a lot about the program, so all the hints would probably be harder for someone if this was their first year in the program. Knowing the classrooms and the setups and the people in it helped a lot.”
This is both Robertson and Warner’s first year being active in FFA, although they have been taking agriculture classes at Bellaire since their freshman year.
“I started to get to know the people,” Warner said. “I saw how they were able to raise the animals, and I know I want to go into something like that when I grow up. The community just seemed like a fun environment to be in.”
Warner said that after joining FFA, it was “everything [she] hoped it would be.”
“I love the teachers, and all the people are amazing,” Warner said. “They love what they do, and they’re so much fun to be around. I’ve learned so much more than I thought I would.”
Aside from school events, four FFA members will be participating in the calf scramble as part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
