Over 20 members sang eight karaoke songs during Karaoke Club’s second meeting of the year on Wednesday in room 2704.
Karaoke Club projected songs like “Your Idol” and “Golden” from the soundtrack of “K-Pop Demon Hunters” on a screen for members to sing along to. The club also offered snacks at the front of the classroom, including walnut cookies and chocolate chip cookies.
“I feel like Karaoke Club is just a break from life,” Karaoke Club Co-President and junior Josephine Eltzschig said. “It’s a place where anybody can come, whether you’re the best singer in the world—or you’re so bad at singing that it makes people cry. I love the combination of having people who just enjoy music in general and enjoy each others’ snacks.”
Eltzschig said the club hopes to collaborate more with other clubs and have more specific meetings. Past collaborations included Project Santa with Student Council and a joint meeting with Best Buddies.
“Maybe we’ll have a musical day for kids who like ‘Wicked,” Eltzschig said. “I want to do more theme days in the future with holidays like Christmas.”
Karaoke Club member and junior Peter Fisher said his favorite part of the club is the support that helps people get out of their comfort zone and sing openly. Fisher has been part of the club since his sophomore year.
“Karaoke club is very welcoming,” Fisher said. “If you’re coming in for the first time to a meeting, don’t be shy. Even if you are, they’re going to help you get integrated in the club.”
Fisher said his favorite event that Karaoke Club hosted was their end-of-the-year karaoke party and their Valentine’s Day Event with Tea Society.
“[Those were my favorite events] because of the large community,” Fisher said. “The feeling that it gave off as we all came together was fun because we could celebrate those events, like Valentine’s Day and the start of summer. People should definitely come and support the club.”
