Video Coverage: Diwali Celebration 2014

Nov 14, 2014

For the past two months Seniors Pratha Aggarwal, Aisha Hasan, Nirmal Patel and Narain Reddy have put their all into making the 27th annual Diwali the best ever. Diwali, also known as Deepavali and the “festival of lights” is an annual Hindu festival celebrated in autumn.

The four seniors spent four to five hours collecting donations from certain areas of town.

“We  spent all day before the program rehearsing,” said Hasan. “We made sure the food was ordered and in on time, light settings were set right and that all the music was able to play without any technical difficulties.”

The program was filled with touching speeches, crowd-pleasing ornate dances and with a distribution of ethnic snacks.  Every year two to four students host the program, which is sponsored by the schools Hindi teacher, Eesha Gulati. This year our emcees were Aggarwal, Hasan, Patel and Reddy.

“Diwali has always meant a lot to me growing up in an Indian family,” Reddy said. “From my freshman year, I knew that I wanted to be a part of such a great event. I’ve always contributed as much as I could in the past years because I wanted it to stay such a great event. Now that I’m a senior and have the responsibility of organizing it, I feel as though it’s a privilege rather than a burden because I get to show the school and city what Diwali and South Asian culture is about.”
