Bellaire’s annual college fair proved to be successful as it drew in both students and parents throughout the Houston area. Representatives from over 150 colleges and universities across the nation advertised their schools with information booths sprawling from the multipurpose room to the cafeteria. College fair’s goal is to inform and encourage high-schoolers about the application process and what various schools have to offer. While some students were freshman seeking assistance, others were seniors making final decisions, such as senior Abigail Klein.
“I’ve been to college fair before, but it’s different this year because I’m a senior and in the midst of the confusing college application process,” Klein said. “It is nice to talk to representatives face to face to clarify my questions.”
College fair is not only to attract high school seniors. In many ways college fair is beneficial for lower grade levels which still have time to find their perfectly suited university.
“I’m gathering information and seeing what’s out there as I begin to think about college,” junior Lauren Friederman said. “I was scared it would be overwhelming, and I didn’t know what to do when I walked in, but then I started asking people about my major, and now I’m feeling better about college.”
Test preparation programs along with foreign exchange opportunities were also represented at College Fair as well. Among the many raffles, Test Masters was offering a chance to win a free SAT preparation course. Knowledgeable representatives and question filled students and parents helped make college fair a success once again.
