I’ve never mini-golfed in my whole life, so when I saw that a new mini-golf course had opened up I was thrilled. I’m always looking for new activities near me to try with friends, especially since Houston is such a big city with seemingly nothing to do, especially due to the heat.
The Holey Moley Golf Course opened on April 19 of this year. The golf course shares the building with the well-known Regal Edwards movie theater on Weslayan Street, which increased its popularity based on its location. Golf, food, karaoke, plus movies —it’s honestly a hole-in-one.
The Holey Moley Golf Club opened mini-golf centers in California, Colorado and multiple cities in Texas including Austin, San Antonio and now Houston. It has had many high reviews in the cities in which it’s located and it has a great atmosphere for people of all ages.
The restaurant has many food options for children and families, with pizzas, sandwiches and many quick snacks to enjoy after your golfing endeavors. I honestly really enjoyed their food, specifically the pizza I had which was so good. I think the diner vibe fits in very well with the retro theme carried through the entire club. It’s also part bar so it would definitely be a cute date night for adults.
The design of the restaurant and putt-putt center is very cute and aesthetic, but it almost feels as if they’re trying too hard to be “relatable” and trendy. With all the neon signs that tell cringey jokes and puns, I found the direction the designers took to be almost a little too much, which was disappointing. Honestly, putter luck next time!
Looking more at the golf courses themselves, there are 27 courses with some really cool features. One of the courses literally puts you in a box and has a wind feature that blows fake dollar bills around you while you golf. The courses are small but quite adorable with their themes such as “Arty Party” which has some replicas of famous paintings on the wall like the Mona Lisa and some fake colorful bust sculptures, and “Moonshot” which has an astronaut decoration as part of the course. My favorite course was the “Sugar, Slice, and all things Nice” course which has this huge teddy bear, some sugar heart decorations and is all pink!
Logistics-wise, the pricing is quite fair with it only being $10 per nine holes for anyone under the age of 21 and $14 for adults. What disappointed me was how small each course was, but the layout was really fun which made up for the small courses. I would definitely recommend going if you’re looking for a quick little activity and then catching a movie.
Add this to your Houston bucket list if you want a quick activity to do with some friends and if you enjoy getting out of the heat! Grab your putter and give it a shot!
