Hispanic Heritage Month Student Highlight

“Hispanic Heritage Month is a way for other people to appreciate our culture.  I’m proud to be Hispanic because of our rich culture, whether it be our food, dances, clothing or other aspects. Hispanics really value their family which I find very beautiful. My family always gets together to celebrate events like bautismos and quinceañeras. My favorite part about being Hispanic is the food, obviously, and the holidays, which is when I get to eat my grandma’s food the most. You can never get bored of eating because there’s hundreds of plates to choose from like tamales, gorditas, tacos, pozole, etc. I’ve actually been learning how to make some traditional Mexican plates because I find it important for families to pass down recipes for future generations to enjoy. Hispanic Heritage Month helps bring light to our beautiful culture and history, and it spreads awareness of issues the Hispanic community faces. It also helps recognize those Hispanics who have made meaningful impacts such as Selena Quintanilla and Ellen Ochoa. I’m going to be participating in the Hispanic Heritage Month performance which I’m excited for because I can finally do something to celebrate it. You need to be proud of your culture and celebrate it.”
