In celebration of Black History Month, the African American Association hosted its second annual Black History Month Program on Feb. 23. The event featured performances from eMotion Hip Hop, eMotion Breakdance, the Bellaire Jazz Band, East African Student Association and individual acts from students.
Senior and AAA president Joshua Percy played a big role in organizing the event, from recruiting students to perform to designing promotional material to co-hosting and performing the night of.
“It was pretty stressful the day of,” Percy said. “But in the end, it just felt great because I had pulled it off and nothing really went wrong.”
Percy said he hopes to have inspired people to carry on this Black History Month celebration in future years.
“I would love for this to continue being a thing,” Percy said. “Because I’m graduating this year, I would love for someone to continue to step up every year to keep this tradition going.”
He also hopes for more students to show up to future Black History Month Programs.
“There was a huge chunk of people, but it was mostly adults,” Percy said. “I would love for more students to see this. I think if more students gave it a chance, they would love it.”
