Steaming food. Winding line. Watering mouths. It’s just another Tuesday in room 306 as members of Foodie Club enter U.S. History teacher Seth Mintz’s bustling room.
Junior Erika Bonilla stands in the middle of a long, winding line leading toward the table filled with steaming Chinese food.
“I’m really excited to try the Chinese food,” Bonilla said. “My favorite type of food we’ve had so far is probably Italian.”
Bonilla joined the club to try foods from around the world and looks forward to a new favorite food by the end of the year. In addition to trying a sample of every food, Bonilla enjoys learning the origin of the food.
Mintz sponsors the popular club. He created a blog for his club, www.bhsfoodclub.blogspot.com, and frequently updates it. Days before club meetings, he posts the anticipated food of the week. After club meetings, he posts every food that was brought in addition to the overall likes and dislikes. He also educates members by posting links on his blog to interesting websites relating to different foods and recipes.
Mintz encourages all members to be adventurous and try foods that may not appeal to them at first. He wants club members to have an open mind and try everything.
Junior club member Kaelyn Kringel entered dessert day with an open mind as she stacked her plate with sweets.
“I really like dessert day,” Kringel said. “I love trying all the different desserts. My favorite dessert is definitely tres leches.”
From Greek food to Chinese food, Mintz exposes club members to countless meals from around the world. His assortment of informative and food blogs provide both delicious food and a foodie education.
