On Oct. 25, the Spanish Club, National Spanish Honor Society and Latin Revolution hosted the Spanish Luncheon in the Multipurpose Room. Catered by Pico’s, a well-known “MexMex” restaurant with many locations around the city, this luncheon included a menu of the prime Mexican food available for just $8, available for delivery to teachers if desired.
This year the Latin Revolution made their first appearance alongside the Spanish classes, giving two special performances in addition to the Spanish and guitar classes’ performances. The groups also performed after school on Friday. This luncheon was also special in that it honored the memory of Arabic teacher Fadwa Saqer.
Senior Maddy Folkerts, Vice President of the Spanish Club and member of the National Spanish Honor Society, remarks on the Spanish culture reflected in the luncheon and all the work put into carrying out this luncheon.
“Spanish club wanted to host a luncheon in October to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month,” Folkerts said. “National Spanish Honor Society members helped the Spanish Club sell tickets and volunteer during the luncheon. Various Spanish classes put together a performance for the luncheon that included singing, guitar playing and dancing. It was great to see the event go well and hopefully everyone had fun learning and celebrating the Spanish culture!”
Senior Mollie Shin, President of the Spanish Club and member of the National Spanish Honor Society, discusses what she and her club members did to prepare for this event.
“It was really fun to organize the Spanish Luncheon this year,” Shin said. “I was extremely pleased at how all of the food and performances turned out. Everyone who went seemed to enjoy it and had a lot of fun.”
