The Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) held its first boba social of the year on Oct. 30 to celebrate Halloween. VSA reached out to the ShareTea catering service for the first time to provide the drinks.
“Although this wasn’t our first boba social, it was the first time we catered from an outside company compared to making homemade boba,” junior and president Sydney Nguyen said. “ShareTea was very easy to communicate with and we are looking forward to more collaborations with them.”
VSA came up with the Halloween theme in September and spent the weeks leading up to Halloween planning the event. The club prepared for the social by putting up posters and social media posts, making the pre-order form and buying surprise extra snacks to give out for free for those who purchased.
Junior Obed Reyes saw that his friend had posted the marketing flier on her Instagram story. Reyes is a long-time supporter of VSA and purchases from the club when they have events such as these.
“I got the milk tea and I really enjoyed it,” Reyes said. “The cracker the VSA added was a great touch. The salty cracker and the sweet drink [were] like the perfect combination.”
Though other clubs were also hosting events on Oct. 30, which impacted VSA’s sale opportunities, Nguyen thinks the event went well and the results of the sale met her expectations.
“Even with this setback, we were still able to provide boba for everyone who attended,” Nguyen said.
In the future, Nguyen and the other officers are considering another boba social.
“We are definitely interested in hosting a similar event, maybe during the spring semester or next year,” Nguyen said. “Some changes may include lowering the price in order to appeal to a greater audience and maybe [a] collaboration with another club to increase outreach.”
This social event is just one of the upcoming events for VSA. Nguyen and the other officers plan to have more socials and events.
“Some future plans for VSA, in terms of large events, are hosting a spicy ramen social and a Lunar New Year potluck,” Nguyen said. “We will also continue to promote Vietnamese culture through our bimonthly meetings.”
VSA meets twice a month. For more information, join VSA’s Remind: @bhsvsa or follow the club’s Instagram: @bhs_vsa.
