Around 10 students gathered in room 3716 for the first time on Jan. 13, to discuss the Romanticism Era (1798 to 1837) and the future plans of Hearts in Harmony, a new club.
Hearts in Harmony plans to hold discussions about the Romantic Era, host group interpretations of art created during the time period and organize poetry workshops for its members. Club sponsor and English teacher Christopher Doherty is excited about the future of the club.
“[The future of the club] is bright because they’re bright,” Doherty said. “[The club leaders] are really smart kids, and I think they’ll come up with cool stuff. I hope that they get some more confidence and leadership skills. I think that’s gonna be cool to see, especially for the kids in my class to run it.”
Club President and sophomore Bethel Kifle approached Doherty, her English teacher with the idea to start the club.
“I thought [the club] was neat,” Doherty said. “I’m not super into that era, [with] the romanticism and all that stuff. I’ve studied it, I understand it, but I’m curious where [the officers] are going to take it. It seems like an unusual choice for students, so I want to see what they do with it.”
Sophomore Raya Jogi enjoyed learning about the time period at the meeting.
“I think it was very beautiful in a way, because the style of writing was just very compelling,” Jogi said. “I think it was like the perfect balance of a bit older language and the modern language. I think that’s the kind of genre that I really like reading.”
Hearts in Harmony meets on the first Monday of every month. Keep up with the club at @bhsheartsinharmony on Instagram or join their Remind @bhshearts.
