Sweet and savory notes of chocolate, strawberry lemonade and parmesan emanated from Culinary Club’s Valentine’s Day potluck fundraiser in room 2712 on Feb. 10.
The event consisted of many people, drawing a large crowd of more than 30 students to taste the homemade meals and festive Valentine’s Day-themed atmosphere.
Homemade strawberry lemonade, sugar cookies, chicken alfredo, cake pops and cookies were sold for $5 at the door and $3 for preorders.
“A lot of people pre-ordered and paid, and a lot of people came at the door once they saw all our food,” community outreach officer and sophomore Katherine Nguyen said. “The event was really successful.”
Sophomore Fernanda Ortiz heard about the event from her friends. She had attended the previous Culinary Club meeting and ate the club’s noodles. She enjoyed the meeting’s Valentine’s Day theme.
“I didn’t know about the meeting until the end of fourth period,” Ortiz said. “My friends said that there was gonna be food, and I was like, ‘Oh heck yeah, I’m going.’”
Ortiz paid at the door instead of pre-ordering.
“The food was really good,” Ortiz said. “I couldn’t wait to try it, especially with the chocolate, all my favorite stuff and the cookies. They looked delicious. The last meeting, it was a little bit more organized. This meeting, many people were just like lined up and surrounded around the corner.”
Culinary Club collected $200 dollars, according to sophomore and president of the club Zara Bukhari.
With another event finished, “Culinary Club looks forward to continuing our tradition of sharing food and fostering a love for cooking [among students],” Ngyuen said. “Valentine’s Day is our biggest event. So we just have always been doing Love at First bite.”
