She believes that robots will take over the world.
Sophomore and AI Club Co-president Elaine Wang jokes that the future is dependent on robots. She and sophomore Samuel Hu founded AI Club last school year to educate people about the rise of artificial intelligence. The presidents revived the club after four months of inactivity in Room 1621 on Feb. 18.
“At our meeting, we went over things that we covered last semester because we hadn’t had a meeting for a while,” Wang said. “We also explored computer vision, which is a type of artificial intelligence that is very useful.”
Twenty-five members attended the meeting — including sophomore Macie Richard-Patel.
“I’m really happy AI club started back up,” Richard-Patel said. “It’s been a while since they last had a meeting, so it’s nice to be back.”
Hu and Wang have participated in clubs together before, and their shared interest inspired them to start a club of their own.
“Me and Elaine were both on the same robotics team, and we were both very interested in technology and innovation,” Hu said. “We saw that AI was a big market in today’s time.”
Inspired by the idea, Wang also saw the significance of AI and joined Hu’s initiative to found AI Club.
“Originally, it was Samuel’s idea, but I decided to join AI Club and be an officer because I thought that it was something really worth exploring,” Wang said. “Artificial intelligence is spreading rapidly and taking over so many aspects of our life, so it’s important to be educated.”
During the meetings, AI Club members played games such as Death by AI, competed in AI competitions and collaborated with other clubs.
“Currently, we are thinking about a collaboration with Rooftop Garden Club,” Wang said. “We want to go to the rooftop and use AI drones.”
