Bellaire hosted its annual Open House for parents and students to learn more about their student’s classes, teachers and coursework on Sept. 9.
Parents and students first met in the auditorium to learn about CCMR (College, Career and Military Readiness) graduation points, AP exam pass rates and Title I funding.
Since teachers have different ways of teaching, Open House allows parents such as sophomore Evan Abney’s parents to learn more about each teacher.
“It’ll probably just be helpful in understanding how teachers have rather unique teaching styles,” Abney said. “[Open House] allowed my parents to understand the teacher I have better.”
Not only do students see the benefits of Open House, but so do teachers, according to AP Physics C: Mechanics, IB Astronomy and Calculus 3 teacher Reena Chopra. Chopra uses Open House as an opportunity to get parents familiar with herself and her personality.
“It’s very reassuring to know that the student’s teacher is on the same page and they care about the student and are willing to work with them,” Chopra said. “I think it means a lot [from] the perspective of a parent. I normally talk about the grade distribution, the homework, how to help the student or what the [students] should do if they’re struggling in class.”
Parent Hua Wu recognizes the difficulty of the classes her son senior Daniel Wu is taking and appreciates his willingness to continue his classes.
“I think the kids have a lot to do right now,” Hua Wu said. “Multitasking is definitely a key skill they learned over time to better handle the courses.”
