Culinary Club hosted a Chipotle-themed Kahoot event for their second meeting of the year on Sept. 22 in Room 2712. Over 20 students came to the meeting, with many of them being new members of the club.
The prize for winning the Kahoot was a $20 Chipotle gift card, which would only go to the first-place winner. The club also discussed their future plans about collaborating with the Cancer Awareness Club on Oct. 6 in support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Junior Eden Wilson has been a member of the club since her freshman year. Wilson said she was a “little nervous” coming to the meeting after seeing that most of the attendees were freshmen.
“I'm friends with the officers,” Wilson said. “But everyone in [this meeting] were all freshmen. I didn't know any of them. My friend group always comes to the club, and I didn't see any of them here, so I was like 'Gosh, okay.'”
After participating in the Kahoot and feeling the “enthusiasm” of the other members, Wilson said she felt more in place.
“The meeting was successful because a lot of the freshmen joined,” Wilson said. “And clubs need freshmen so that they can pass on the legacy of the club, because a lot of the officers are upperclassmen, mainly juniors.”
Sophomore and treasurer Emily Zhu said the event was intended to bring members together over a “little” competition and shared love for Chipotle.
“We did a Kahoot about Chipotle to promote our upcoming Chipotle sale and to also do something fun for our community,” Zhu said. “We also gave out gift cards and prizes, mainly to bring our community together, and [a Chipotle Kahoot] was a great way to do so.”
Zhu said she thought this event turned out successful, seeing that many students participated and that there was a lot of excitement in the room. She said the club was planning on doing similar events in the future because of how well it went.
“We're also going to be selling food,” Zhu said. “We'll have a lot of different types and varieties of foods such as hot chocolate, matcha pastries and drinks, yogurt bowls, spicy noodles, gingerbread cookies and sago-inspired desserts. We're also planning to do more games and a collaboration with Cancer Awareness Club for people to make and decorate cancer awareness cookies.”
Zhu said she thought it was great seeing how many different people came together to bond over a common interest in culinary arts and Chipotle.
“It's great because it just feels like we're really succeeding in bringing our community together,” Zhu said. “And I love seeing how much fun a lot of people are having. I feel like having a lot of people in the meetings is a great way to have an interactive environment for people making friends, which is what our club is really about.”
