The Bellaire Chinese Club (BCC) started off the year with their welcome meeting in the LGI 2 on Oct. 1.
The club received a turnout of about 90 members. The meeting introduced BCC’s 2025-26 officers and allowed members to preview the club’s upcoming activities.
BCC president and junior Katherine Huang was in charge of coordinating the party.
This marked Huang’s first year stepping up as president.
“I am most excited about our Chinese New Year celebration, since this is our second year [hosting this event] after the pandemic,” Huang said. “It’s exciting to work and collaborate with new dancers and members.”
The Diabolo Club held a Chinese yo-yo performance with Diabolo president Nicholas Jan at the beginning of the party. Jan performed different skills and tricks, such as tossing the diabolo in the air or spinning it in circles around his body.
After the opening performance, students were encouraged to take part in various games by officers, starting with an icebreaker called “Stop and Walk.” The game consisted of stopping, walking and high-fiving their neighbor. Officers reversed the commands and created more actions for members to engage in so they could interact more.
The party also featured other competitive games such as musical chairs, push-up contests like “Steal The Bacon” and “Splat.”
The winner of each game received a prize of their choice at the end of the party, varying from stuffed animals to mystery bags. At the end of the meeting, the officers handed out gift bags to each member containing different snacks.
“The BCC welcome party was really fun,” freshman Sophia Yang said. “I got to know a lot of new people, [meet] the officers and learn more about Chinese culture.”
