The National Beta Club (NBC) made candy goodie bags to donate to the Nehemiah Center in Room 2703 on Oct. 13 with around 30 members in attendance.
The candy goodie bag-making event was led by senior and club president Sydney Nguyen. The meeting was intended to incorporate “fun festivities” of the Halloween holiday as well as to give back to the community through acts of service.
“We settled on making fun bags filled with candy to provide kids with little sweet treats,” Nguyen said. “Our main goal behind this project was to spread joy to kids who may not have the opportunity to celebrate or go trick-or-treating.”
Candy goodie bags were made from plastic Halloween-decorated bags and filled inside with candy, such as Haribo Goldbears, Twix Bars and Dubble Bubbles. Around 30 bags were made, each containing handwritten notes for the Nehemiah Center, which works with over 500 children and families.
The National Beta Club partnered with the Nehemiah Center not only to complete service projects but to embody the core values of the National Beta Club, including leading by serving others.
“This service project reflects the core values of NBC by developing [a] strong character of humility and empathy,” Nguyen said. “It also contributes to the service pillar by recognizing the needs of our community and spending time to fulfill them.”
In their next meeting, the National Beta Club plans to host a Thanksgiving-themed collaboration with the Letters of Love Club on Nov. 10.
