Popfancy Popsicles Prove Delicious

Hot chocolate after an hour of ice skating? Try a better treat with healthy, organic ice pops from Houston’s newest frozen treat company Popfancy Pops. Popfancy’s location next to the Galleria’s ice skating rink seems like an oxymoron, but does not 85 degrees Fahrenheit in November seem just as crazy?

I visited the small kiosk on a Sunday afternoon and found a lovely display of all the offered flavors. There are fourteen different flavors, six fruity (non-dairy) and eight creamy. My first treat was horchata which proved to be an excellent decision. Horchata’s description as “a Central American inspired flavor made with fresh rice milk and warm cinnamon” was exactly what it tasted like. The gourmet pop was individually wrapped and served with a little cardboard tray. I was surprised at how much I liked the very smooth taste. Also, the pop was not cold on the teeth as an icy treat usually is. The friendly worker told me that this may be due to the low water content in their pops, which also means the ice pop does not melt so quickly. Also, an unexpected pleasure was that there was no brain freeze. I felt like the snack was delicious, and I would definitely recommend the horchata flavor to a friend.

The second ice pop I chose was the Blueberry Sage Lemonade from the nondairy variety. This flavor I did not like as much because it seemed more grainy or gritty. I love blueberries but not pulp so that may be why this flavor was not the one for me.

The pops cost $3.50 a piece. Not too pricey considering it is located inside the Galleria Mall. The company which started one year ago, has a second location in Memorial City area. They also have a food truck that travels around Houston which I bet it is great in the summer heat.

Next time you are at the Galleria, I suggest trying them. They are too good to miss out on!
